People sitting far off-axis from the center of the TV will not experience the sound coming from the TV the same way as with a dedicated center channel, but other than that I have not found many drawbacks to this approach. When you have good speakers, phantom mode usually sounds better than a mismatched center speaker. Some receivers, specifically older ones, actually call this "phantom center channel" mode. Go into your receiver's speaker setup menus and for the center channel setting, turn it to "no center speaker," or "off." When you turn off the center speaker the receiver will send the center channel information into the left and right speakers equally, creating a "phantom" center channel that seems to come from between the two speakers. Because of this, my advice may seem contradictory because I am going to recommend you forgo the center channel speaker and try your system without one. Can you recommend a replacement center speaker? I am happy with the system and not ready to replace the whole thing yet.Ī: The center channel is often said to be the most important speaker in a surround sound speaker system. I am having trouble with the center speaker, and I can't get it repaired. It uses a Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble surround sound speaker system, which is now discontinued.

Feel free to email me.Q: I purchased my sound system in 1998. I would be interested in hearing anyone's experience with the larger Center Stage, with the smaller Center Channel II, or even with just using another Enesemble Satellite as a center speaker in comparison to the Center Channel Plus.

A small amount of electrical tape wrapped around the gril pegs for a tighter fit was an easy and invisible fix. The only other problem I had with it was that the grill didn't like to stay on. It was a relatively new product at the time I purchased it in the early 90's, so it is a better value now being $100 less in price. I normally swear by Cambridge Soundworks products, just not in the case of the Center Channel Plus.

My brother has the Center Channel Plus as well, and he and I seem to feel the same way about it. Additionally, I find that it does not tonally match my Ensemble IIs as it was advertised to do. I just retired my Kenwood KR-V8050 Dolby Pro-Logic receiver and upgraded to a Pioneer Elite VSX-35TX Dolby Digital/DTS/THX/EX, and clarity has improved (at least in 5.1 and DTS modes). I have had to rewind on more than one occasion just to understand what was said, and at 27 years of age, I don't think it's my ears yet. Dialog often sounds nasal, sometimes unintelligable. I am in a constant battle with adjusting it's volume level. I find that it sounds congested, boxy, restrained, and lacks bass. However, the Center Channel Plus has been the one component I have been a little frustrated with. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed the speakers as they offer tremendous value, performing well beyond their price tag, and I strongly reccomend them. My system consists of Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble II for the mains, The Surround II for the rears, a very recently purchased BassCube 8, and the Center Channel Plus.

I'd say this center channel performance is disapointing to me.

The center channel is hardest working part of a home theatre system.90% of the vocals come through the center channel.therefore the center channel speaker really should be able to reproduce the full range of om high to low.well the CSW Center Channel Plus.performs terribly on lower range of sound.most conversation sound only a little better than the speakers coming out of my TV. I am using it with a Harmon Kardon AVR25 II receiver which supplies 65 watts per channel. It was only $150 additional so I successfully convinced my wife to add it to our purchase.we were still in the Christmas spirit I suppose.Īnyway, we are still remodeling our bedroom so I decided to put the speakers in the family room and use it as part of a home theatre system. I thought having a center channel would enhance TV viewing experience in the bedroom. On a whim a decided to add the Center Channel plus center speaker for TV use in the bedroom.
